CAREER

Changing career dynamics in the hospitality industry

About 8 percent of India’s total working class is employed by the hospitality industry. That is over 18 lakh, with more than 21 percent of jobs posted for entry-level. Previously, an applicant looking for a career in hospitality was required to move to metropolitan cities in search of a job. The timeworn technique of word-of-mouth, recruitment agencies, references, and networks for staffing solutions has proven to be insufficient in recent times.

Formal hospitality education was a distant dream a decade ago, the hired resources needed to be trained and skilled on the job prolonging their personal and financial growth trajectory. With most migratory workers returning to their hometowns and settling there during the pandemic the hospitality industry has faced an unprecedented loss of skilled employees.

The ever-increasing demand in the unorganised sector is often met by unskilled but experienced staff. The industry today is experiencing over 60% demand-supply gap in man force. Training and skilling employees on the job are necessary but time-consuming. Hiring in the hospitality sector, including hotels, restaurants and airlines, grew by 58 per cent in November 2021. The travel and hospitality industry has seen an exponential growth of 352 per cent year-on-year. With a surge of over 40% as compared to last year, the white collar job market in India has witnessed an upward trend, particularly in the travel and hospitality industry

Hiring in the hospitality sector has always been a pain point, especially with the festive surge in hiring. 80% of India’s hospitality workforce is migratory, cross migration because of various factors including the growing global health concern, and it has been difficult for hospitality job seekers to meet the right employer. The introduction of modern technology like AI and Blockchain has addressed this pain point through the medium of an offline-online hybrid model of talent sourcing, authenticated employment and certification history

Kaam.com uses technology that goes beyond just providing a job with an added weightage to upskilling and future growth opportunities. The technology with its contemporary tools and industry-driven skilling can create a fast-track channel for recruiting and staffing applicants.
