Navratri 2025 Day 1: Maa Shailputri Puja, Auspicious Color, What to Wear, and Rituals

Navratri 2025 Day 1: Worship of Maa Shailputri

Navratri, one of the most celebrated Hindu festivals, marks nine days of devotion to the nine forms of Goddess Durga. In 2025, Navratri begins on 29 September, and the first day is dedicated to Maa Shailputri, symbolizing purity, strength, and divine motherhood.

Maa Shailputri, also known as the daughter of the Himalayas, is depicted riding a bull, holding a trident and a lotus. She represents the root chakra (Muladhara), establishing the foundation of spiritual growth.

Auspicious Color for Day 1 – Orange

Each day of Navratri is associated with a specific color. For Day 1, the auspicious color is Orange.

  • Orange represents energy, enthusiasm, and new beginnings.

  • Wearing orange on this day is believed to bring positivity and attract the blessings of Maa Shailputri.

What to Wear on Navratri Day 1

Celebrating Navratri also means embracing tradition through attire.

  • For Women:

    • Sarees, lehengas, anarkali suits, or Indo-western outfits in vibrant shades of orange, saffron, or rust.

    • Accessorize with gold jewelry, traditional bangles, or floral adornments to complete the festive look.

  • For Men:

    • Kurta-pajamas, sherwanis, or dhotis in orange or saffron hues.

    • Add a contrasting stole or dupatta for a refined, devotional touch.

  • Modern Twist:

    • Youngsters often choose Indo-fusion styles such as orange maxi dresses, tunics, or casual kurtas paired with jeans to keep the festive vibe alive.

Rituals and Puja Vidhi

  1. Kalash Sthapana (Ghatasthapana): The festival begins with the establishment of a sacred Kalash, symbolizing divine energy.

  2. Offerings to Maa Shailputri: Devotees offer fresh flowers, ghee, fruits, and sweets to the Goddess.

  3. Chanting and Aarti: Reciting Durga Saptashati, chanting mantras, and performing aarti strengthens devotion.

  4. Fasting: Many devotees observe a fast, consuming fruits, milk, and sattvic food while avoiding grains and non-vegetarian items.

Spiritual Significance of Day 1

  • Worshipping Maa Shailputri brings stability, peace, and strength.

  • It purifies the devotee’s mind and body, helping them embark on the spiritual journey of Navratri with renewed energy.

  • Orange, the day’s color, enhances confidence and inner strength.

In short, Navratri Day 1 is about devotion to Maa Shailputri, embracing the vibrant color orange, dressing traditionally, and performing rituals with sincerity to welcome positivity and divine blessings.
