Fans of Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy may have reason to get excited. Screenwriter Mattson Tomlin, co-writer of The Batman: Part II, recently hinted at the possibility of a Spider-Man 4 starring Tobey Maguire as a Peter Parker navigating life as a husband and father.
Tobey Maguire first brought the iconic red suit to life in the early 2000s, setting the standard for superhero storytelling. Since then, the Spider-Man franchise has expanded with Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland, culminating in the multiverse-packed Spider-Man: No Way Home, which reunited all three actors and fueled fan demand for further appearances.
Tomlin’s interest in revisiting Maguire’s Spider-Man emerged in July, when a fan asked on X (formerly Twitter) if he would consider writing a Spider-Man movie. He responded:
“Honestly, right now my main interest in this respect would be to write a Spider-Man 4 where Tobey’s Spider-Man is juggling being a husband and a father.”
He added, “Spider-Man as a father is where I gravitate towards given the last eight films.”
When asked about progress on the project, Tomlin remained cautiously optimistic:
“Slow and steady wins the race. There won’t be anything to say about that for a long time (if ever!) because it involves a lot of people and politics and things going right that have nothing to do with me, but I haven’t gotten a ‘no’ yet!”
Meanwhile, the Spider-Man franchise continues to evolve in the MCU. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, scheduled for release on July 31, 2026, will feature Tom Holland in a “fresh start” for Peter Parker following the events of No Way Home.
Fans of Tobey Maguire can hold out hope that, one day, the beloved Raimi-era Spider-Man might swing back into action — now as a husband, father, and hero navigating a new chapter of life.
