What is Earth Day?

Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22 to promote environmental awareness and sustainability. It serves as a global reminder to take action against climate change, pollution, and deforestation.

History of Earth Day

The first Earth Day was observed in 1970, initiated by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson. It was a response to rising pollution, oil spills, and industrial waste. Over 20 million Americans participated in the first event, leading to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the introduction of key environmental laws like the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act.

By 1990, Earth Day had gone global, with over 200 million people in 141 countries joining efforts to protect the environment. Today, it is recognized by over 1 billion people worldwide.

Why is Earth Day Important?

Earth Day raises awareness about critical environmental challenges, including:
