India’s Fight Against TB: PM Modi Commends the ‘TB Mukt Bharat’ Initiative

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has acknowledged the success of the ‘TB Mukt Bharat’ (TB-Free India) elimination campaign, aimed at making India tuberculosis-free by 2025. Responding to a post by Union Health Minister JP Nadda, PM Modi wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

“I appreciate all those strengthening the fight against TB and contributing to #TBMuktBharat. It is remarkable how this effort is gaining momentum at the grassroots level, ensuring a healthier India.”

On World Tuberculosis Day (March 24), Health Minister JP Nadda highlighted India’s achievements in tackling TB following the 100-day intensive TB campaign and proposed a nationwide elimination drive.

Key Achievements in TB Elimination

As part of the campaign, several milestones were achieved:

✅ 1.94 lakh+ awareness activities were conducted across the country.
✅ 33,000+ elected representatives and 22 ministries actively participated in the initiative.
✅ 1.05 lakh new Nikshay Mitras (volunteers) joined to provide nutritional support to TB patients.
✅ 3 lakh+ nutrition food baskets were distributed to aid better recovery and treatment adherence.
✅ 13.46 lakh Nikshay Camps (TB screening camps) were organized, screening 12.97 crore vulnerable individuals.
✅ 7.19 lakh TB cases were identified, including 2.85 lakh asymptomatic cases that might have otherwise gone undetected.
✅ 1.7 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs brought TB care closer to communities, ensuring early diagnosis and treatment.
✅ 46,118+ village panchayats have been certified TB-free.

Expanding the TB Eradication Effort Nationwide

Health Minister JP Nadda emphasized the government’s commitment to expanding the intensive TB elimination campaign across all districts. The focus is on early detection, effective treatment, and community participation, ensuring a TB-free India by 2025.
