Nipah Virus Outbreak Forces Closure of Educational Institutions in Kozhikode

Nipah Virus Outbreak: All educational facilities in the Kozhikode district will be closed till September 24 due to the potential spread of the deadly Nipah virus. Due to the Nipah Virus outbreak in the area, the state government has declared that all educational institutions in the Kozhikode district will be closed for one week, ending on the following Sunday. Schools, technical colleges, tuition centers, and other educational institutions are all covered by the shutdown order.

This choice was made after the government tightened restrictions following the Friday confirmation of a new Nipah Virus infection case, raising the total number of confirmed cases to six. Two people have died from the virus during the most recent epidemic.

There are currently 1,080 people on the contact list for verified Nipah patients, and 130 more were added today. 327 of these are healthcare professionals.

29 people on the contact list, including 22 in Malappuram, three in each of Kannur and Thrissur, and one in Wayanad, are from surrounding districts in addition to Kozhikode.

There are 122 healthcare professionals and 175 ordinary people in the high-risk category. The prospect of an increase in the number of people on the contact list is predicted, according to Veena George, minister of health.

In the meantime, the deceased person’s test result was positive on Friday, August 30. The minister asserts that it appears that this index instance has spread to other people.

On September 12, the state issued a Nipah Virus alert in response to reports of two deaths brought on by fever and viral infection. The deaths were in fact brought on by the Nipah Virus, according to further testing at the National Institute of Virology in Pune.
