In conversation with Parmeet Kaur Marwah, Founder, So Many Morning.
Can you share the inspiration behind transitioning from a corporate career to entrepreneurship in the hospitality industry?
It was when I realised that my 2 years old daughter needed me more than I needed my 9 to 6 corporate job. I wanted to do something where I can work on my terms showcasing my creativity and at the same time being there for my daughter. While I was in Mussoorie when my husband was on his work assignment there, I realised how local women were running their properties as Homestays. They were influential in us deciding to buy our first ever property there.
What challenges did you face when venturing into the vacation rental business, and how did you overcome them?
There have been both internal as well as external challenges being faced as a vacation rental operator. Some of the internal challenges were finding the right staff who has knowledge and experience of dealing with guests, right from housekeeping to kitchen staff, all of them require a certain skill which is expected of them especially in luxury vacation rentals. The external challenges were dealing with several government departments.

With the expansion of “So Many Mornings” to six properties in Mussoorie, what strategies did you employ to maintain quality and consistency across all locations?
Expansion came with more knowledge and experience we gained in terms of guests’ satisfaction, maintaining the quality of the property as well as service and continuous maintenance of the property along with staff’s grooming.
How do you differentiate “So Many Mornings” from other vacation rental options, and what unique experiences do you offer to your guests?
So many mornings offer luxury villas in the city centre yet secluded from the hustle bustle of the main town as all our villas enjoy the address of the city centre of the Mall Road however they are 2-3 mins walk away from there. The villas have stunning views of the Dehradun valley with staff at the property to take care of them from morning till late evenings offering more flexibility to the guests.

As someone with a background in Spanish language and culture, how has this influenced your approach to hospitality and guest experiences?
With exposure to Spanish language along with its culture, more experience pours in dealing with foreigner guests and more understanding as to what they expect of a vacation rental.
What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs looking to enter the hospitality or vacation rental industry based on your own journey and experiences?
First and foremost advice is to comply with all local and state laws of getting themselves registered with the state tourism and secondly to focus on quality of property as well as staff which eventually leads to the overall wow experience of the guests.
